Dr. Oscar Vazquez is a formally educated sports medicine specialist who has also gained a vast array of knowledge and insight through experience. While knowing how to perform a position is important, there is no substitute for being right there in the field and performing the job. That is why Dr. Vazquez has become such a well-respected sports medicine physician. He has worked with many athletes in many various settings, allowing him to become an authority in sports medicine and a purveyor of the field.
Having traveled all over the country to pursue his education, Dr. Vazquez has been trained by some of the best sports medicine physicians out there. After graduating from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a BA in Neurobiology and Behavior, Vazquez went to the top ranked John Hopkins University of Medicine in Baltimore, MD where he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree. He subsequently completed a five year residency in orthopaedic surgery at the prestigious New York University/ Hospital for Joint Diseases program in New York City. From there, he crossed the coast to Los Angeles, CA and attended the University of Southern California Sports Medicine/Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship where he served as team physician for many sports. Dr. Vazquez is passionate about pursuing knowledge and growing in his field.
Currently maintaining several positions in his field, Dr. Vazquez spends each day using his expertise in the field.
He has held numerous positions in Sports Medicine. During fellowship he served as assistant team physician for the University of Southern California football team under coach Pete Carroll, He is the Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Hackensack University Medical Center, a partner at Active Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine LLP, the Orthopaedic Truma Liason for the Hackensack
University Hospital Trauma Committee, the Head Team Physician for the Pascack Hills High School Football team, the Assistant Team Physician at the Stevens Institute of Technology, and works as a Consulting Physician for the Hackensack Ice House, home of several high school ice hockey teams. Dr. Vazquez is committed to excellence and is using his formal education combined with his hands-on experience to become a powerhouse in the sports medicine field.
as well as the PAC 10 champion Men’s Basketball Team. He was Head Team Physician for the USC Women’s Soccer Team, and assistant for multiple other sports at USC. In addition, he was assistance team physician for the East Los Angeles Community College Football team. As a Resident, he assisted in coverage from the high-school level to the professional level, including the New York Mets, New York Rangers, and NYU sports teams.
In addition to being an accomplished sports medicine physician, Dr. Vazquez is consistently trying to provide new insight and information about the human body. His research has been featured in many prominent publications. He is passionate about pushing the sports medicine field to progress and grow.
Dr. Vazquez is a sports enthusiast, which is why this career naturally appealed to him. He also enjoys traveling, fishing, and Spanish culture. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Dr. Vazquez is a well-rounded and humble man who is still pushing himself to accomplish more every single day. Although he has already had a full and successful career, he is always striving to grow as a person through education and experience.
